The Wineyards
Twenty-two hectares of proprietary vineyards are in production, planted in Corvina gentile, Corvinone, Rondinella and a few other typical vines of Valpolicella; to these are added about 7000 square meters of olive groves in the Fumane valley, from whose local variety olive trees our three extra virgin olive oils are born.
The training system is the Veronese half pergola in the foothills land where the oldest vines are located, and the espalier for those in the high hills that host vines of twenty years or more.
Pozzetto
The Pozzetto vineyard is our eldest, it is the vineyard around our family’s home, where it all started. Here the torrent of the valley has dragged stones torn from the rocks of the mountain to support vines trained in the Veronese pergola. These vines yield ninety quintals per hectare, at an altitude of about 180 meters above sea level. It is the testament that our grandfather, Angelo, left us. The San Michele vineyard is splendid, lying on the ridge of the valley at about 200 meters above sea level. It has easterly exposure and stands on a deep tuff plate which gives the wines great elegance and aromatic complexity. Twenty years after planting, the vineyard is strengthening and is finding its natural balance with the earth. Here the Veronese espalier
San Michele
The San Michele vineyard is splendid, lying on the ridge of the valley at about 200 meters above sea level. It has easterly exposure and stands on a deep tuff plate which gives the wines great elegance and aromatic complexity. Twenty years after planting, the vineyard is strengthening and is finding its natural balance with the earth. Here the Veronese espalier is tamed by human hands produces 70 quintals per hectare, offering high quality grapes for strongly distinctive wines.
Monte Solane
The vineyard of the Sun. Monte Solane rests on the northern boundary of Valpolicella, a scenic ridge dazzled by Lake Garda breathing the breezes of the Dolomites.
The vines grow at an altitude of 650 meters, majestically guarded by hawks and supported by a deep slab of pink Prun stone. Their roots are forced to descend deeply, among veins of fossil clay, to gather life. Thus, they can offer a yield of 60 quintals per hectare in this uncontaminated land.
Valle Alta,
This vineyard rests on a hill 256 meters above sea level, following its creases and steep slopes being clung to the “marogne”, the traditional dry-stone walls. This is our sentinel vineyard that admires the entire Fumane Valley from above.
The vines, trained in Veronese espalier, produce 60 quintals per hectare. Fossil marls and ancient sandstones emerge from the ground and are echoed in the grapes and in the wines, bringing great finesse that vibrates with the energy of Nature.
Valle Lena
Lena is an ancient stream which drops steeply from the first peaks of the Pre Alps. Valle Lena is a narrow valley amid oaks and cypresses, where the Ugolini’s have set up a parcel of vineyard at 235 meters above sea level, with 60 quintals per hectare of vineyard yield. This is an exceptionally wild and at the same time mild scenery, of an intimate nature that tells tales of the most ancestral and still pristine Valpolicella. Fossil clays mixed with limestone shales give exceptional finesse to the wines and clarity of aromas, increasing their elegance and distinguishability of olfactory perceptions.
